There is something in many of us that’s drawn to be like pirates, though we may not want to pillage and steal. What is it that we like about pirates? This book affirms children’s desires to be like a pirate, yet pulls out the good qualities that can be turned to the truly admirable.
Eloise came out of the suggestion of a former student. I posted a picture of me in a pirate costume online, and he made the comment, “Ms. G., you should write a book about pirates!” I think he was expecting a swashbuckling novel, not a child’s picture book. Oh well! I love Eloise.

The Realm: The Awakening Begins is one heckofa rollercoaster ride! Suspense, fear, joy, love, peace, hopelessness and hope all wrapped up in one book with great, believable characters. Ross certainly has the ability to make you feel you are truly “there”.
As a homeschooler, this is a book I will share with students in our local Co-op. The hope it brings while wrapped around such a great story will encourage many a reader, no matter what age. I have read it, (I’m 44), my son is reading it, (he’s 15) and any age will be touched by the honesty portrayed by Ross’ characters.

Anything K. Ross is behind is worth reading. Vivid imagination is married with purposeful yet entertaining and gripping reading. Definitely worth checking out.
